A multiyear deal with Uber Technologies is set to begin with a pilot at select Olive Garden locations this year. Darden has long refused to allow third-party delivery companies to handle its food at a large scale.

Once a holdout on using third-party services, Olive Garden is reversing course and will use Uber to deliver breadsticks and pasta.

Darden Restaurants, which owns Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse and other chains, said Olive Garden will be the first of its brands to offer third-party delivery starting later this year. Individual orders will be picked up and delivered by Uber Direct,
