With its rich history of “Seabees” and being home to a prominent Naval base, the town is is now among communities across the US considered an “American World War II Heritage City” by the National Park Service.

Plymouth Township was one of eight newly named communities to receive the National Park Service's American World War II Heritage City designation.

The American World War II Heritage Cities Program was created in 2019 to shed light on the importance that different regions played during that trying time. 30 localities are already on the list, which will be expanded.
