A number of cities will be under a red flag warning Sunday, indicating an increased risk of fire danger according to the National Weather Service.

Multiple wildfires have erupted across New Jersey amid windy and dry conditions. New Jersey residents should be prepared for smoke conditions to last for several days, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service warned on Friday.

An air quality warning was issued for New York City, following a series of wildfires across the Tri-State area.

At least six wildfires are actively burning across New Jersey as gusty winds, dry brush and low humidity provide fueling conditions for fire activity. New York City, Connecticut, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and parts of New Jersey remain under a red flag warning through Saturday at 6 p.

New Jersey has battled 306 wildfires since Oct. 20, up from about 28 during the same period last year. Connecticut has responded to nearly 150 in the past month, after facing just five in 2023. This past October was the driest on record in New Jersey; Connecticut is experiencing its most parched stretch since 1905.
