The Vancouver Canucks have signed free agent goalie Kevin Lankinen to a cheap, one-year contract for under $1 million.

Elliotte Friedman is reporting that Vancouver will be signing Kevin Lankinen to a one-year deal for “under $1M…they need some insurance and he provides it.” This news comes not long after Rick Dhaliwal tweeted,

The Vancouver Canucks have signed Finnish goaltender Kevin Lankinen to a one-year contract. The 29-year-old, whose deal is worth US$875,000, appeared in 24 games last season for the Nashville Predators.

When Thatcher Demko "hit a wall" in his injury rehab during the offseason, the Canucks could have panicked. They could have made a trade or thrown money at a free agent to ensure they had a veteran goaltender in their net and weren't relying entirely on rookie goaltenders with limited NHL experience.
