Vodafone Idea has begun fresh talks with the Indian government for "remedies" related to $8.4 billion in owed dues, the telecom operator said on Monday, days after the country's top court dismissed a plea to re-compute the dues.

With excellent timing – considering last week’s downbeat headlines about AGR dues – Indian operator Vodafone Idea has announced the conclusion of what it quite reasonably describes as a US$3.6 billon megadeal with three global network partners.

Telecom major Vodafone Idea is reportedly in fresh talks with the government over its AGR issue. A Supreme Court bench rejected the petition filed by telecom companies regarding the re-computation of AGR.

India's Vodafone Idea on Sunday concluded a $3.6 billion deal with mobile and network manufacturers Nokia, Ericsson and Samsung for supply of equipment over a period of three years, it said in a statement to exchanges.

The investments will be used to expand its 4G population coverage, introduce 5G in key markets and expand capacity in line with data growth.   Samsung is a fresh addition the VIL's partnerships, in addition to long-term ties with Nokia and Ericsson.

Vodafone Idea has requested government relief for its Rs 70,000 crore AGR dues after the Supreme Court denied its curative petition. Despite this setback, the company remains committed to its long-term business plan,

Indian carrier Vodafone Idea (Vi) has signed a $3.6 billion deal with network vendors Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung. The contract will see the trio of vendors supply Vi with network equipment for the next three years.
